Wisconsin Tax Adds 5% to Cost of DLC, Game Downloads:

If you live in Wisconsin, that Xbox 360 DLC you’ve got your eye on is about to get 5% pricier. Ditto for that PC game you’re considering downloading from Steam.

The Spectator reports that Gov. Jim Doyle has signed into law a measure that will impose a 5% sales tax on digital goods. In addition to game content, things such as music, movies, digital books and ringtones will be affected.

Sucks for Wisconsin.

Bond Trader Accidentally Purchases $31 billion in Capcom Stock:

It was good times around the Capcom offices when they heard that UBS AG had purchased 3 trillion yen ($31 billion) in the publisher’s stock. Shame it didn’t last very long.

That’s because, according to the Capcom-Unity blog, it was all a mistake. It turns out that the bond trader in question only meant to buy $306,000 in stocks, which is cause for considerably less celebration.

Owned.

Japan Review Check: Resident Evil 5, 7th Dragon:

Resident Evil 5 (10/10/9/9, 38 points): “There’s no dramatic change as there was from RE3 to RE4, but there’s still an evolutionary process here,” as one put it. “No major surprises; just an ease of play and a visual, control, and gameplay standard that’s top-of-the-line,” said another. And that, really, is the worst you can say about Capcom’s latest, a game otherwise described as a “massive, valuable package.”

7th Dragon (9/8/8/8, 33 points): If RE5 is Japan’s big million-selling blockbuster of the week, then 7th Dragon is the game that all the diehards will buy instead. “I get a definite Etrian Odyssey vibe to the game, which plays out pretty dramatically story-wise,” one reviewer said. “From the simple gameplay to the 2D map, you’ll like this if you’re into traditional RPGs.”

Probably not going to bother with Resident Evil 5, as I hated 4, but I’m definitely going to try 7th Dragon if they localize it.

Perry commented, “I hear Sony FINALLY has the PSP 2. And thank goodness, they’ve removed the stupid battery-sucking UMD disc drive. I’m excited!”

GameDaily BIZ followed up with Perry who told us, “I’ve been (for a long time now) calling on Sony to move with the times. I love the PSP, I just wish they’d learn from the mistakes and move forward. I’m really tired of new versions being baby steps, or more color changes. I can’t reveal my sources, but you can be certain there’s no UMD, which means fully digital online device, and you know I know people.”

The PlayStation 3 could be about to receive a price cut, with Sony due to make an announcement imminently.

That’s not the interesting part of the article, though.

He also said that there is talk of a PlayStation 3 unit without the Blu-ray drive[…]

This, of course, makes about as much sense as a PlayStation 2 without a DVD-ROM drive, or an SNES without a cartridge slot. That is, it wouldn’t be able to play any games, and thus, would just be a $400 black box. The Blu-ray drive is also a rather large selling point, much like the DVD drive was a selling point for the PlayStation 2.
